Chapters 1 & 2
After reading chapters 1 & 2, answer the two questions below. Make sure you label question 1 and question 2 in your answer.
Question 1:
From page 7: “’Focus on school,’ Ma always tells me. ‘There will be friends later. The wrong friends bring drama, and I don’t want them rubbing off on you.’” Do you agree with Ma’s advice? Explain your reasoning.
Question 2:
How is Bryan’s life and school experience different from your own?

I disagree with Ma's advice. I disagree because it is good to have friends at school. If you didn't have any friends who would you play with at recess, also what if you forgot what an assignment was who would you call to find out what it was? Even if they might be a bad example you could help them by being a good example.

Bryan's life and school experience are different from my own in many ways. First, he goes to his mom's office after school and I go to my house. Also, his mom informs him to focus on school and not on friends whereas my mom wants me to focus on school and friends. Another thing is that his mom invites people to dinner all of the time and we don't have a lot of people come to dinner. That's not even all of the differences between my life and school experience compared to Brady's.

I agree on question 2 that my mother doesn’t invite people over all the time.

I agree that Bryan should be able to make new friends and be able to hang out with them too.

1. I agree with ma's advice because you should focus on school, But still have friends. because if you always hang out with your friends you might forget to do work, and if you forget too much work you might fail the grade.
2. Bryans school and life are different and the same in some ways. For instance my family is not in debt. Secondly my family really doesn't care about my grades. This might be because I have never really gotten a bad score on a big test. And lastly, He has to go and get groceries whereas I have to do different chores not including that.

I agree about the risk of failing the grade if he hangs out with the wrong friends.

1.I agree with ma’s advice, because Bryan is growing up in the projects. He could get into some real trouble if he hangs out with the wrong people. I think Bryan should focus on school so he can live a successful life.
2. Bryan’s life is a lot different than mine, He is older so he can go out alone and buy groceries, which I probably could too. His family is having troubles managing their money, mine is not. He lives in the projects. I don’t.

I disagree with Ma. I disagree because Bryan should be able to make new friends at school and to play with them. Yes, school is important but, if he doesn't have friends then he would be lonely and have no-one to talk to. At recess he wouldn't have anyone to play with. Bryan should be able to make his own choices and learn from them if they were bad choices.

Bryans life and school experiences is different from mine because after school Bryan goes to his moms work building and does his homework there in his (office). I do my homework at my house in my moms room or the kitchen counter. His mom also just invites people over all the time for dinner. My mom doesn't do that. Bryans mom also doesn't really let him play with other kids. She always says that school is more important. I always get to play with someone after school. There are many ways that mine and Bryans life's are different.

I agree with Ma because she is right about having wrong friends, who can sometimes force you to do the wrong things. Although this might not be true in younger grades, Bryan should focus on his middle school work if he wants to do well. I think Ma was talking about Mike when she said “the wrong friends.”

I think Bryan’s school experience and life is different than mine because, 1) Bryan goes to middle school and has much different routines. 2) He goes to his mom’s office to do schoolwork and homework. 3) He lives in and apartment. 4) Both of his parents work in offices. These are many ways Bryan’s life is different.

That is a good point on why hanging out with the wrong people can lead you in the wrong way.
